Huntsville, Al May 4, 2010 - Mo Brooks Endorses John Wilson:
Our nation and state face many challenges caused by those who believe in larger and more intrusive governments, unsustainable deficit spending, socialism rather than free enterprise, and tax increases that threaten family incomes.  If America is to remain a great nation, we must rise up and defend America’s foundational principles. This is a fight which America and succeeding generations cannot afford to lose.
I am doing my part by running for Congress.  Others in our community are similarly sacrificing and becoming candidates to help fight the great threats we face.
One such candidate is Huntsville’s John Wilson, who seeks to be our next Alabama State Senator from Senate District 9 (encompassing Southeast Madison County, Marshall County and Northern Blount County – now occupied by retiring Sen. Hinton Mitchem).
I’ve known John and his wife, Caroline, for almost two decades (I coached one of their sons in soccer).  John has been a long-time conservative stalwart.  He has been very active and taken on leadership roles in South Huntsville organizations.
John served his country for 20+ years as an Army officer, Ranger and Vietnam Veteran. He has invaluable experience in our Redstone Arsenal defense industry.
John Wilson, a devoted family man,  is a solid conservative whose education, experience and military background make him uniquely qualified to be our state senator.
I strongly urge you to join me and vote for John Wilson in the Republican Primary on June 1st.

- John Wilson, a Republican from Huntsville who is a candidate for the State Senate in District 9, released the following statement concerning Sen. Hinton Mitchem’s announced retirement from the Alabama State Senate:

“The willingness of an individual to serve the public is an admirable trait.  Hinton Mitchem has dedicated the last 36 years showing this willingness by serving both as a Democratic senator and representative, and I wish him well in his retirement.
As a dedicated conservative Republican for more than 40 years, I had enthusiastically anticipated the opportunity of running against Sen. Mitchem in the 2010 general election.    I looked forward to having the opportunity to clearly distinguish the differences in how we perceive the direction in which the state should go.

The people of Alabama’s 9th Senate District are now assured of new representation in Montgomery when the Legislature convenes next year.  This is a change that is long overdue. The Alabama Legislature, under its current Democratic leadership, controlled by special interests, has been and is a major contributor to many of the current problems in this state.
The State Senate has been particularly dysfunctional, and the current Democratic leadership has even blocked reforms, such as a ban on PAC-to-PAC transfers which they enthusiastically promised in the last election.  In a year in which the state has enormous challenges to confront, the Senate leadership has chosen to devote much of its time and energy this year trying to legalize electronic “bingo” machines,  while they have yet to even start budget discussions.  The people of Alabama deserve a legislature that timely addresses the real concerns of its citizens.
Alabama’s 9th Senate District includes not just Marshall County, but also substantial portions of Madison and Blount Counties.    It is my firm belief that in the past not all areas of District 9 have been represented in a fair, equitable manner. The people of the 9th District need a senator who understands that a leader must morally and ethically represent the whole district in a fair, equitable manner, and I pledge to do that without compromise when I am elected.”
